Work Hours/Shift: Full Time Monday – Thursday 10:30am – 8:00pm You Will Be Responsible For: - Determines identity and suitability of specimens when received, according to the laboratory policies and procedures.
- Assures test accuracy by performing and recording control testing, in accordance with departmental policy on each shift, performs tests in accordance with procedure manuals and reports results in a timely manner, as documented in test records.
- Recognizes, investigates and correctly resolves test discrepancies. When problems arise, takes appropriate action to investigate, address and notify section supervisor of follow-up.
- Reviews integrity of report by checking legibility and completeness prior to releasing, as observed by the Laboratory Manager.
- Accurately performs, records, transcribes or reviews proficiency testing material by the stated deadline, as evidenced in the survey evaluation results.
- Maintains instrumentation and department supplies in order to ensure efficient departmental operations.
- Performs and documents assigned equipment maintenance duties per shift according to maintenance manuals.
- Restocks department supplies on a regular basis to ensure adequacy of inventory, as documented on department checklist.
- Assists in troubleshooting and repair of equipment when needed and ensures problem resolution, as documented in maintenance records.
- Promotes and contributes positively to intradepartmental and interdepartmental communication to ensure efficient departmental operation. Weight: 10%
- Checks in with personnel on duty at start of shift to obtain pertinent information regarding procedure, instrumentation care, as observed by Laboratory Manager.
- Answers telephone and pages promptly and in a courteous manner, identifying self and department at all times.
- Ensures sufficient orientation of new employees unfamiliar with the department.
- Relays information to on-coming shift and makes sure department is covered prior to leaving.
- Demonstrates good judgement in directing phone calls or questions to the appropriate department or individual.
- Independently handles resolution of complex problems and issues for all laboratory sections. Serves as escalation support for less experienced staff.
- Ensures that results are properly filed and that data is recorded in a legible manner as evidenced in departmental records.
- Exhibits ability to perform essential computer operations pertaining to job duties.
- Recommends revisions to procedure manuals as needed to attention of Section Supervisor.
- Understands regulatory guidelines and assists in preparation of department for inspections as needed.
- Assists with evaluation of new tests and equipment as directed by Laboratory Manager.
- Performs scheduling of staff members for the shift.
Qualifications
What You Will Need: - Must have a B.S. degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
- Must have the necessary experience factors to meet any State licensure and accreditation requirements.
- One year of full-time experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist in a full-service accredited laboratory.
- Technologist/Scientist Certification by ASCP or AMT Board of Certification
Job Summary: The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for facilitating daily workflow during their shift in addition to working an assigned bench. Duties include leading licensed and unlicensed laboratory personnel, test performance and test reporting. Serves as a liaison and point of contact for physicians, management, staff and students. The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist is highly competent in all sections of the laboratory.
