The role you’ll contribute:
Assists surgeons in preparation for and during surgical procedures.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Utilizes physician preference cards to set up operating suites. May update and route cards appropriately, when instructed
Determines appropriate surgical equipment and supplies, based on physician’s preference and sets up the procedure room with the correct instrumentation and supplies
Achieves temporary and permanent hemostasis by applying appropriate techniques
Assists with body plane closures, wound dressing applications, and securing drainage systems
Surgical assistant shall be familiar with common positions related to the surgical procedure and will be able to use the equipment necessary to provide the position
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
High School education or equivalent upon hire
Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Course upon hire
Minimum six years’ total experience as a CST/CFA
Each year of CST experience = half a year
Each year of CFA experience = whole year
Minimum of 6 months experience in each of these 3 major surgical specialties (Orthopedics, Spine, and Robotics).
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or RQI upon hire, then renewed quarterly following the RQI protocol
Current Surgical Technologist First Assist certification from one of the following upon hire:
National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) upon hire
National Surgical Association as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) upon hire
Current member of the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) upon hire
8 hours Hip and Knee Replacement/Spine Education within 6 months of hire date, then annually
